Minister recalls wa education chief over damning report
NDP Leader Tom Mulcair on Tuesday responded to revelations from a House committee that his education minister had instructed his staff to suppress findings from his committee’s report in the face of mounting opposition from teachers unions.

“I’ve got to tell you, we haven’t heard about it,” he told reporters at the Ontario Legislature. “I thought it would get a full report but it didn’t. That is totally unacceptable, you know, not only for my party leader, but we’ve got to be able to get it done in the House of Commons.”

“It was a long process and it was very, very difficult for us,” he said, adding that some of the NDP’s MPs are members of the House of Commons labour relations committee.
A number of NDP MPs have also accused the government of attempting to cover up evidence of widespread systemic union-busting in Ontario schools, while the education minister has denied wrongdoing.
But Mr. Mulcair maintained his “very strong” support for the public interest and the government’s efforts to ensure teachers are not treated like property.
“Our country has more than twice the number of teachers as any other state and almost one fifth as many as any other country,” he said.

Education Minister Liz Sandals has maintained an official role as interim leader of the federal NDP in the House of Commons, which has been dealing with the fallout from the auditor’s report into the impact of the tuition-fee hike announced Monday.
