Earlier he called for the federal government to withdraw the mining tax “as soon as possible” to pay for a new border fence.
“We are not leaving Australia,” he said. “We just want the mining tax back.”
The speech, which was given at Sydney’s Bondi Beach, was condemned as an attack on immigrants by a number of prominent conservative leaders across Australia.
Senator Malcolm Roberts, who chaired a review into the immigration status of the Nationals and is also the federal MP for Griffith, said Mr Christensen had “no place in this Parliament”.
“I am very distressed to read the comments of Mr Christensen, who, for the second time this year, has declared himself to be an enemy of the values of this country, of our community, and of my constituents.
