Rural economy to need £16 billion to get back on track: Shadow Business Secretary Angela Eagle
Shadow Business Secretary Angela Eagle says the government’s failure to fund affordable homes and new transport schemes is “a damning indictment of Labour’s handling of our economy”.
Cllr Eagle said: “The Government is not delivering on its ambitious targets of new homes and transport, not even at the expense of the poorest of the poor.”
Cllr Eagle accused ministers of “selling out council workers and the public”.
“They’ve allowed councils to fall off a cliff and not even put their public service managers back in the driving seat,” she said.
“The Government has made no attempt to hold councils to account in delivering the promises it has made. They’ve bought votes.”
The Labour shadow home secretary said new housing funding for towns and villages is a critical component of her party’s plans to improve the communities in which the country lives.
New homes for council workers
Shadow Business Secretary Angela Eagle said that if government was serious about ensuring council housing was affordable, the right measures should also be put in place to promote and encourage further housing investment in this area.
Cllr Eagle said the lack of effective local transport investment meant there was a shortage of homes for people to live in, and a lack of services in local areas that allowed communities to remain s바카라사이트trong.
She said Labour had plans for further housing investment to increase rural economy employment.
“We are working with the communities which the Conservative government and the London council want to destroy to make sure we get to a new, sustainable, sustainable rural economy that provides opportunity, decent jobs and quality housing.”
New transport funding is needed to boost mobility for local people
Cllr Eagle said there had been “overwhelming evidence that we are not in time for the next big transport revolution to help people move around town”.
